Moving Beyond WASD
The keyboard was designed for typewriters in 1874. We are still using it to move avatars through 3D space in 2024. It is an objectively terrible interface for gaming.
The Binary Movement Problem
WASD provides 8 directions of binary movement. You are either moving at full speed or stopped.
With Gloveboard's IMU, you can map hand tilt to analog movement. Tilt your hand slightly forward to walk. Tilt it further to run. It provides the analog precision of a controller thumbstick with the button-density of a keyboard.
Action Economy
In an MMO or MOBA, action economy dictates your skill ceiling. Reaching for the 6 key takes your finger off the movement keys.
With Gloveboard, every action is a chord. You never "reach" for a button.
| Game Type | Advantage |
|---|---|
| MMO | Bind 50+ spells to instantaneous 2-finger chords. Never look down. |
| FPS | Analog movement via IMU + instant weapon swaps without moving fingers off movement vectors. |
| VR | Complete hands-free locomotion while holding virtual objects. |
Latency
Gamers care about latency. We bypassed Bluetooth for our competitive users. You can plug the Gloveboard directly into your PC via a lightweight USB-C tether, achieving a sub-5ms polling rate.
