The Gorilla Arm Problem
Optical tracking requires your hands to be in the camera's field of view. You must hold your hands up, or at least keep them visible. This leads to "Gorilla Arm"—rapid shoulder fatigue.
Gloveboard operates via Bluetooth or USB. Your hands can be under a blanket, behind your back, or resting completely slack at your sides.
Tactile Feedback
Pinching thin air provides zero feedback. Gloveboard doesn't have mechanical switches, but the physical tension of the glove fabric against your bending finger provides proprioceptive feedback. You feel when a chord is engaged.
Speed
Optical tracking cannot handle 100 WPM typing. The occlusion of fingers blocking other fingers confuses the cameras. Gloveboard's individual flex sensors have zero occlusion issues, allowing for blazing fast chording.
