WPM Projection Calculator
Learning a chorded keyboard requires rewiring your muscle memory. This tool uses aggregated data from our beta testers to project how long it will take you to reach QWERTY parity.

Assumption: Based on the power law of practice. 40 WPM typically requires ~10 hours of focused chording practice. Reaching higher speeds (80+) requires exponential time investment, mimicking native language acquisition curves.
Why does it take so long?
Unlike switching from QWERTY to Dvorak—where you are just remapping physical locations—Gloveboard requires learning a new physical alphabet.
We strongly recommend using our Chord Tester before your unit arrives. Beta testers who spent 30 minutes a day on the web trainer before receiving their hardware reached 40 WPM in half the time.
Common Mistakes
- Practicing for 3 hours on Day 1. You will fatigue your brain, not your fingers. Stop after 45 minutes.
- Looking at a cheat sheet. Force active recall. If you forget a chord, try to deduce it from the phonetic grouping rules before checking the manual.
- Ignoring accuracy for speed. A 90% accuracy rate at 30 WPM is useless. Aim for 98% accuracy at 15 WPM; speed follows naturally.
