Voice dictation is socially unacceptable in an open-plan office, a coffee shop, or on a train. It requires a private environment. Gloveboard is entirely silent.

Editing and Coding

Voice is great for generating prose ("Siri, remind me to buy milk"). It is catastrophic for editing text or writing code. Try speaking this out loud: const result = array.map(x => x.id);

Speaking requires engaging the language centers of the brain differently than typing. For many writers and developers, the physical act of typing is linked to their thought process.

Voice is a supplement, not a replacement.
